In 2024, the Bellingen Shire joined an elite cohort of eight Australian destinations dedicated to sustainable tourism and was the fourth in New South Wales to achieve this significant feat.
We welcome you to this special place. A place that is enriched with a community of creatives and entrepreneurs, a deep sense of connection to culture and nestled amongst some of the world’s most majestic and precious natural environment.
The Shire is renowned for its stunning coastal scapes, dramatic waterfalls and World Heritage-listed rainforest, with State Forests and National Park covering more than half of the region. This makes the area a haven for ecotourism and nature-based tourism activities.
ECO Destination Certification recognises the Bellingen Shire for its commitment to ongoing improvement of sustainable practices and the provision of high-quality nature-based tourism experiences within the region. This is backed by a strong, well-managed certification and on-going audit process that meets international best practice sustainability standards.
